Diesel-powered generators should not run unloaded for extended periods (generally no more than 15 minutes). After startup, a 3-minute warm-up and 5-minute voltage stabilization are recommended before applying load.

Operating diesel power generators below 50% of rated power increases risks such as excessive oil consumption, carbon buildup, higher failure rates, and shortened overhaul cycles. A minimum load of 30% is advised to ensure proper engine temperature, optimal component fit, reduced carbon deposits, and prevention of early cylinder wear.
