800kw Cummins Generator Electronic Speed Control System 1

The 800kw Cummins generator electronic speed control system (EFC) is the main control mechanism for controlling fuel supply in the PT fuel system, which can achieve automatic control of diesel engine speed. The system is mainly composed of actuator, speed control controller and electromagnetic sensor. The speed control controller has two kinds of speed control systems: normally open and normally closed.

The electromagnetic sensor detects the speed of the diesel engine on the flywheel ring gear and feeds back the AC signal to the speed controller. The speed controller compares this signal with the original parameters of the speed controller. If two values are different, the speed controller will change the current sent to the actuator, causing the throttle shaft of the speed controller to rotate by an angle, thereby changing the amount of fuel supplied to the diesel engine, resulting in corresponding changes in the speed and power of the diesel engine.

(1) The composition of the speed controller. Once the electromagnetic sensors and actuators of the electronic speed control system malfunction, it is difficult to repair and the only option is to replace the assembly. Early Cummins generator sets had relatively independent control systems for their diesel engine and generator, with two control panels. In recent years, Cummins generator sets have integrated diesel engines and generator control panels. No matter how the control panel changes, the speed controller of the electronic speed control system always exists, and there are four potentiometers available for adjustment.

1. Gain potentiometer: A gain potentiometer is a rotary potentiometer that can only be rotated once, mainly used to adjust the sensitivity of the speed controller. Rotate the potentiometer dial clockwise to shorten the response time of the speed controller to the load; Turning counterclockwise will prolong the response time of the speed controller to the load.

2. Speed droop potentiometer: The speed droop potentiometer is also a rotary potentiometer that can only be turned once, and can achieve speed droop adjustment within the range of 0% -5%. Turning the potentiometer dial clockwise will increase the speed drop, otherwise it will decrease the speed drop.

3. Idle potentiometer: The idle potentiometer is a rotary knob type potentiometer that can be rotated 20 times to adjust the operating speed of the diesel engine during idle. Turning clockwise will increase the idle speed, otherwise it will decrease the idle speed.

4. Empty high-speed potentiometer: The empty high-speed potentiometer is also a rotary potentiometer that can be turned 20 times to adjust the required unloaded high speed. Turning clockwise will increase the maximum no-load speed, otherwise it will decrease the maximum no-load speed.

Diesel Generator Power Ratings: Standby vs Prime vs Continuous

Diesel generator sets are commonly used in a variety of sectors due to their dependable performance and high efficiency. They can be used for emergency power supply in the event of a power cut or used in places without connection to a power grid. When selecting a diesel generator for your home or business, you need to consider many factors, such as generator’s ratings. In this article, we’ll explain the three basic rating types - standby, prime, and continuous in diesel generators. ISO-8528-1:2018 defines basic generator set rating categories based on four operational categories: Emergency Standby Power (ESP), Prime Power (PRP), Continuous Power (COP) and Limited-Time Running Prime (LTP). Read on and learn the application of power ratings for engines used in generating sets. Standby Power Rating Standby Power(ESP) is used to supply emergency power when the external power supply is interrupted, such as power outages. Standby power rated generators can supply reliable electricity as t...

What Should You Pay Attention to in Routine Maintenance of Diesel Generator Sets

In modern society, the stability of power supply is directly related to the operation efficiency of enterprises and people's quality of life. Diesel generators have become an indispensable backup power supply or main power source in various industries due to their high efficiency, durability and reliability. However, to ensure the smooth operation and optimal performance of the generator sets, regular maintenance is essential. Here is what you need to pay attention to in the routine maintenance of diesel generators. Keep your generator clean It’s important to keep the generator’s exterior and the generator room clean. Regularly remove any dirt, dust, or debris that may accumulate to on the generator’s surface. This is not only for the sake of beauty, but also for the smooth operation of the unit. Cleaning the generator’s exterior, air intake vents, exhaust outlets and generator room can effectively reduce the risk of generator overheating. In addition, check if the connection bol...
