Understanding Emergency Shutdown Device of Diesel Generator Sets

When using diesel generator sets for a long time, it is essential to know the functions of the emergency shutdown device and the alarm switch.

(1) Emergency Shutdown Device of Diesel Generator Sets

The emergency shutdown device of Shangchai diesel generator sets can be operated electrically, mechanically, or hydraulically. Users should be familiar with the shutdown mode and location of the shutdown device installed on their diesel generator engines, the conditions for activating various shutdown devices, and the reset steps required before restarting.

The working principles of all electric shutdown devices are similar. When a certain critical operating condition occurs, a switch is activated to stop the engine. The shutdown device needs to be reset before the engine can be restarted.

The shutdown device should be inspected by the company's personnel every 1000 working hours. The engine unit staff can test the hydraulic - mechanical shutdown device every 500 working hours. Generally, the emergency shutdown device should not be used during normal shutdowns. The cause of the sudden shutdown must be identified, and necessary repairs should be carried out.

(2) Alarm Switch of Diesel Generator Sets

The set temperature, pressure, or liquid level critical values when the alarm of Shangchai diesel generator sets is activated are more stringent than those for emergency shutdown, that is, the alarm is triggered in advance. The purpose of the alarm is to warn the operator of an impending unsafe situation, and corrective measures must be taken to prevent engine damage.

After the alarm is triggered, necessary corrective measures should be taken before the situation turns into an emergency. Each alarm switch is connected by wires to an indicator light, a bell, or a speaker. The alarm continues until the fault is eliminated, and then the indicator light goes out, and the bell or speaker stops ringing. To prevent the alarm from sounding during the repair process, a two - way switch and a red indicator light can be installed. When the switch is toggled to cut off the alarm, the red light lights up. If the switch remains in the "OFF" position after the repair, the red light continues to shine, indicating that the engine is not in a protected state.

Diesel Generator Power Ratings: Standby vs Prime vs Continuous

Diesel generator sets are commonly used in a variety of sectors due to their dependable performance and high efficiency. They can be used for emergency power supply in the event of a power cut or used in places without connection to a power grid. When selecting a diesel generator for your home or business, you need to consider many factors, such as generator’s ratings. In this article, we’ll explain the three basic rating types - standby, prime, and continuous in diesel generators. ISO-8528-1:2018 defines basic generator set rating categories based on four operational categories: Emergency Standby Power (ESP), Prime Power (PRP), Continuous Power (COP) and Limited-Time Running Prime (LTP). Read on and learn the application of power ratings for engines used in generating sets. Standby Power Rating Standby Power(ESP) is used to supply emergency power when the external power supply is interrupted, such as power outages. Standby power rated generators can supply reliable electricity as t...

What Should You Pay Attention to in Routine Maintenance of Diesel Generator Sets

In modern society, the stability of power supply is directly related to the operation efficiency of enterprises and people's quality of life. Diesel generators have become an indispensable backup power supply or main power source in various industries due to their high efficiency, durability and reliability. However, to ensure the smooth operation and optimal performance of the generator sets, regular maintenance is essential. Here is what you need to pay attention to in the routine maintenance of diesel generators. Keep your generator clean It’s important to keep the generator’s exterior and the generator room clean. Regularly remove any dirt, dust, or debris that may accumulate to on the generator’s surface. This is not only for the sake of beauty, but also for the smooth operation of the unit. Cleaning the generator’s exterior, air intake vents, exhaust outlets and generator room can effectively reduce the risk of generator overheating. In addition, check if the connection bol...
