Diesel Generator Set Debugging and Operation Guide

In our daily lives, from something as trivial as cooking to as significant as air travel, electricity is indispensable for both production and daily activities. Most enterprises and high - rise residential buildings are equipped with diesel generator sets as backup power sources. It is not only necessary but also extremely urgent to prepare an emergency standby generator set in advance. If you have a ready - to - use diesel generator set, you won't be at a loss when a sudden power outage occurs.

Pre - debugging Inspection and Preparation for Diesel Generator Sets

When the indoor temperature is lower than 20°C, turn on the electric heater to pre - heat the machine.

Check the machine body and its surroundings for any debris that may hinder operation. If there is any, remove it promptly.

Check the oil level in the crankcase, the fuel level in the fuel tank, and the water level in the radiator. If the oil or water level is below the specified value, replenish it to the normal position.

Check whether the fuel supply valve and the cooling water shut - off valve are in the open position.

Check whether the voltage of the starting electric battery pack is normal.

Test the test button on the switchboard and observe whether each alarm indicator light is lit up.

Check whether each switch on the switchboard is in the off position and whether each instrument indicates zero.

Start the intake and exhaust fans.

Press the starting button of the engine to start it. If the first start fails, press the corresponding reset button on the switchboard. Wait until the alarm is cleared and the unit returns to normal before attempting a second start. After starting, if the machine runs with normal sound, the cooling water pump running indicator light is on, and the on - road instrument readings are normal, the start is successful.

Steps for Manual Startup Mode in Diesel Generator Set Debugging

(1)Manual Startup Operation during Diesel Generator Use

Press the manual key on the module operation panel, and the controller will enter the "Manual Mode", with the manual mode indicator light on. Press the test - run key, and the controller will enter the "Manual Test - run Mode", with the manual test - run mode indicator light on. In both modes, press the startup key, and the engine will start. It will automatically determine if the startup is successful and automatically increase the speed to the rated speed for operation. When the diesel generator set encounters situations such as high water temperature, low oil pressure, overspeed, or abnormal voltage during operation, it can effectively and quickly shut down for protection.

In the "Manual Mode", whether the generator set is loaded depends on the status of the utility power. If the utility power is normal, the load switch will not switch; if the utility power is abnormal, the load switch will switch to the power - generation side.

In the "Manual Test - run Mode", after the generator set runs stably at high speed, regardless of whether the utility power is normal, the load switch will switch to the power - generation side.

(2)Manual Shutdown Operation

Press the shutdown key, and the unit will enter the normal shutdown mode. In case of an emergency, press the shutdown key twice, and the unit can stop immediately. You can also press the shutdown button on the operation panel of the electric control box to stop the unit immediately.

Diesel Generator Power Ratings: Standby vs Prime vs Continuous

Diesel generator sets are commonly used in a variety of sectors due to their dependable performance and high efficiency. They can be used for emergency power supply in the event of a power cut or used in places without connection to a power grid. When selecting a diesel generator for your home or business, you need to consider many factors, such as generator’s ratings. In this article, we’ll explain the three basic rating types - standby, prime, and continuous in diesel generators. ISO-8528-1:2018 defines basic generator set rating categories based on four operational categories: Emergency Standby Power (ESP), Prime Power (PRP), Continuous Power (COP) and Limited-Time Running Prime (LTP). Read on and learn the application of power ratings for engines used in generating sets. Standby Power Rating Standby Power(ESP) is used to supply emergency power when the external power supply is interrupted, such as power outages. Standby power rated generators can supply reliable electricity as t...

How to Connect A Diesel Generator to Your House?

Diesel generators are fuel-efficient and reliable, which can almost meet the power needs of any application. If you want to power the whole house during power shortages, it’s a good choice to choose a diesel generator set as the backup electricity supply. But how to connect a diesel generator to your house? Read on and you will find the answer. Options to connect a diesel generator to your home   Keep in mind that never plug your generator directly into the mains, or it will cause back feeding, damage your appliances and be life-threatening for utility workers. Generally, you can choose to connect a generator to your house by using extension cords or a transfer switch. Understanding the difference between them is helpful for you to choose the right type. Extension cords   Typically, extension cords are suitable for smaller diesel generators that used for short term. They require no installation and are cost-effective. If you need to power only some basic appliances such as...

What Should You Pay Attention to in Routine Maintenance of Diesel Generator Sets

In modern society, the stability of power supply is directly related to the operation efficiency of enterprises and people's quality of life. Diesel generators have become an indispensable backup power supply or main power source in various industries due to their high efficiency, durability and reliability. However, to ensure the smooth operation and optimal performance of the generator sets, regular maintenance is essential. Here is what you need to pay attention to in the routine maintenance of diesel generators. Keep your generator clean It’s important to keep the generator’s exterior and the generator room clean. Regularly remove any dirt, dust, or debris that may accumulate to on the generator’s surface. This is not only for the sake of beauty, but also for the smooth operation of the unit. Cleaning the generator’s exterior, air intake vents, exhaust outlets and generator room can effectively reduce the risk of generator overheating. In addition, check if the connection bol...
