Several Key Design Considerations for Containerized Diesel Generator Sets

With the improvement of social productivity and rapid economic growth, the demand for electricity is also increasing rapidly. Containerized diesel generator sets have emerged in recent years as a type of mobile power supply device, offering advantages such as easy mobility, good resistance to rain and dust, and relatively low noise. Below, we will explore several key factors to consider when designing a containerized diesel generator.

Compared to indoor-installed diesel generator sets, containerized generator sets have clear advantages in terms of project timelines: the approval process is relatively simplified, installation and commissioning cycles are shorter, and the reduced delivery time means faster capital recovery. The advantages of indoor installation include easier transportation of the unit, more space for maintenance, and a relatively smaller overall impact on the environment.

Regarding the key factors to consider when designing containerized generators in China today, we will elaborate on the following four points.

  1. Power output and cable selection

As a power supply device, containerised diesel generators’ power output, types of cables and the wiring method should be considered. In addition to the diesel genset, the container also houses other low-voltage auxiliary equipment. Designers should clearly define the types of these devices and their power requirements before starting the design process. It is essential to reserve capacity and power interfaces for the mains supply in advance, as well as control cable connections.

  1. Ventilation and heat dissipation

Generally, to reduce overall container noise levels and provide better protection, the noise-reducing enclosure is designed to be larger, which reduces airflow permeability. This can negatively impact the ventilation and heat dissipation of the entire unit. Therefore, when designing a container diesel generator, it is crucial to accurately calculate the intake and exhaust air resistance of the entire container to avoid exceeding the cooling system limits of the diesel generator set.

  1. Day tank capacity

Typically, a day tank is installed inside the container. Unlike indoor-installed diesel generating sets, which are often limited to a 1m³ day tank, the day tank capacity for containerized diesel generators can be slightly larger.

  1. Protection measures

Special attention should be paid to protective considerations for containerized diesel generator sets. In southern regions, the focus is on rainproofing, while in northern areas, additional measures such as protection against willow catkins, snow, cold, and insulation are necessary. For the fire protection system, a heptafluoropropane fire suppression system is commonly used inside the container. The fire protection system is often interconnected with the fuel supply system—when a fire alarm is triggered, it immediately issues an alert and rapidly discharges fuel from the day tank to prevent the fire from spreading further.

Consider diesel generators from Dingbo Power

At Dingbo Power, we provide different types of 100% brand new diesel generators, such as open-type, silent type, containerized type, trailer-mounted type, etc. Each type of generator sets have their advantages and disadvantages. You need to choose the right one based on your specific needs. Our containerized generators are packaged in ISO containers and the containerized line comes standard on a Department of Transportation (DoT) approved chassis.

Diesel Generator Power Ratings: Standby vs Prime vs Continuous

Diesel generator sets are commonly used in a variety of sectors due to their dependable performance and high efficiency. They can be used for emergency power supply in the event of a power cut or used in places without connection to a power grid. When selecting a diesel generator for your home or business, you need to consider many factors, such as generator’s ratings. In this article, we’ll explain the three basic rating types - standby, prime, and continuous in diesel generators. ISO-8528-1:2018 defines basic generator set rating categories based on four operational categories: Emergency Standby Power (ESP), Prime Power (PRP), Continuous Power (COP) and Limited-Time Running Prime (LTP). Read on and learn the application of power ratings for engines used in generating sets. Standby Power Rating Standby Power(ESP) is used to supply emergency power when the external power supply is interrupted, such as power outages. Standby power rated generators can supply reliable electricity as t...

What Should You Pay Attention to in Routine Maintenance of Diesel Generator Sets

In modern society, the stability of power supply is directly related to the operation efficiency of enterprises and people's quality of life. Diesel generators have become an indispensable backup power supply or main power source in various industries due to their high efficiency, durability and reliability. However, to ensure the smooth operation and optimal performance of the generator sets, regular maintenance is essential. Here is what you need to pay attention to in the routine maintenance of diesel generators. Keep your generator clean It’s important to keep the generator’s exterior and the generator room clean. Regularly remove any dirt, dust, or debris that may accumulate to on the generator’s surface. This is not only for the sake of beauty, but also for the smooth operation of the unit. Cleaning the generator’s exterior, air intake vents, exhaust outlets and generator room can effectively reduce the risk of generator overheating. In addition, check if the connection bol...

How to Connect A Diesel Generator to Your House?

Diesel generators are fuel-efficient and reliable, which can almost meet the power needs of any application. If you want to power the whole house during power shortages, it’s a good choice to choose a diesel generator set as the backup electricity supply. But how to connect a diesel generator to your house? Read on and you will find the answer. Options to connect a diesel generator to your home   Keep in mind that never plug your generator directly into the mains, or it will cause back feeding, damage your appliances and be life-threatening for utility workers. Generally, you can choose to connect a generator to your house by using extension cords or a transfer switch. Understanding the difference between them is helpful for you to choose the right type. Extension cords   Typically, extension cords are suitable for smaller diesel generators that used for short term. They require no installation and are cost-effective. If you need to power only some basic appliances such as...
