What Is a Containerized Diesel Generator?

Diesel generators are renowned for their reliability, durability, fuel efficiency and low maintenance. They are commonly used as emergency backup power supply or used in remote areas where the power grid is unavailable. When buying a diesel generator set for an application in a noise-sensitive location, you need a noise-reducing solution. Silent type generators often come either containerized or with a canopy. In this article, we’ll explore the containerized diesel generators and their applications.

What is a containerized diesel generator?

A containerized diesel generator is a power generator that produces electricity by burning diesel fuel and has been built within a standard ISO shipping container. This containerized approach has many advantages, such as mobility, easy deployment, and scalability. Containerized diesel generators are used as a backup or single power source for companies and factories that require a large amount of power. They are ideal for emergency or continuous power and can can reach a high-power output of 3000kW.

Advantages of containerized diesel generators

A canopied generator is built to protect the inside of the generator from the elements. Those units being housed within a soundproof canopy can attenuate noise effectively and are commonly used in residential, commercial and industrial applications. Compared to canopied generator sets, containerized diesel generators have the following benefits:

Easy transport

A containerized diesel generator is packaged and delivered as a complete unit within a standard ISO container, which is easy for transportation to the most remote worksites. Forklift slots and lifting eyes are also integrated, which also facilitate transportation and on-site installation. These generators can be easily transported from one worksite to the next.

Low noise level

The interior of the container adopts high frequency, medium frequency, low frequency PUR type flame retardant sound-absorbing cotton to effectively reduce the different noises emanating from various parts of the unit. The internal box-type silencer helps to attenuate exhaust noise in the roof and air in/outlet effectively. Generally, acoustically enclosed or canopied generators range from 75-85 dB(A) at one meter.

Easy installation and maintenance

The robust design of the containerized generator sets enables them to withstand harsh environments. They can operate reliably even in the hottest environments - validated at ambient temperatures of up to 50 degrees Celsius. This type of diesel generators is weatherproof and dustproof. The secure container keeps the generator in a safe, clean environment, requiring less routine checks and maintenance. The integrated ladder and 2 end doors and 2 lateral doors also simplify installation, access and maintenance of generator.

Applications of containerized diesel generators

Containerized diesel generators have been widely used in various fields due to their portability, easy installation and maintenance, high performance and other advantages. These generator sets can be used in various applications such as remote locations, disaster recovery, events, back-up power and construction sites where there is a need for reliable power supply.

Remote locations

Containerized diesel generators are suitable for use in remote locations, such as temporary camps, construction sites, military bases and areas without reliable access to the grid. It can be utilized to power a wide range of heavy duty tools and equipment.

Disaster recovery

Containerized generator are easy to transport and install, which are ideal for disaster recovery. They can provide reliable power and aid recovery after a natural disaster.

Construction sites

The durable and robust containerized generator sets are ideally suited for independent power producer (IPP), mining, oil and gas, or any project where harsh conditions, challenging environments and the demand for reliable, continuous remote power exist.

Diesel Generator Power Ratings: Standby vs Prime vs Continuous

Diesel generator sets are commonly used in a variety of sectors due to their dependable performance and high efficiency. They can be used for emergency power supply in the event of a power cut or used in places without connection to a power grid. When selecting a diesel generator for your home or business, you need to consider many factors, such as generator’s ratings. In this article, we’ll explain the three basic rating types - standby, prime, and continuous in diesel generators. ISO-8528-1:2018 defines basic generator set rating categories based on four operational categories: Emergency Standby Power (ESP), Prime Power (PRP), Continuous Power (COP) and Limited-Time Running Prime (LTP). Read on and learn the application of power ratings for engines used in generating sets. Standby Power Rating Standby Power(ESP) is used to supply emergency power when the external power supply is interrupted, such as power outages. Standby power rated generators can supply reliable electricity as t...

How to Connect A Diesel Generator to Your House?

Diesel generators are fuel-efficient and reliable, which can almost meet the power needs of any application. If you want to power the whole house during power shortages, it’s a good choice to choose a diesel generator set as the backup electricity supply. But how to connect a diesel generator to your house? Read on and you will find the answer. Options to connect a diesel generator to your home   Keep in mind that never plug your generator directly into the mains, or it will cause back feeding, damage your appliances and be life-threatening for utility workers. Generally, you can choose to connect a generator to your house by using extension cords or a transfer switch. Understanding the difference between them is helpful for you to choose the right type. Extension cords   Typically, extension cords are suitable for smaller diesel generators that used for short term. They require no installation and are cost-effective. If you need to power only some basic appliances such as...

What Should You Pay Attention to in Routine Maintenance of Diesel Generator Sets

In modern society, the stability of power supply is directly related to the operation efficiency of enterprises and people's quality of life. Diesel generators have become an indispensable backup power supply or main power source in various industries due to their high efficiency, durability and reliability. However, to ensure the smooth operation and optimal performance of the generator sets, regular maintenance is essential. Here is what you need to pay attention to in the routine maintenance of diesel generators. Keep your generator clean It’s important to keep the generator’s exterior and the generator room clean. Regularly remove any dirt, dust, or debris that may accumulate to on the generator’s surface. This is not only for the sake of beauty, but also for the smooth operation of the unit. Cleaning the generator’s exterior, air intake vents, exhaust outlets and generator room can effectively reduce the risk of generator overheating. In addition, check if the connection bol...
