Essential Knowledge of Generator Usage Environment and Installation 2

This article continues to introduce the necessary knowledge for the use environment and installation of generators.

4. Generator assembly

4.4.1 Installation with the generator

This engine is suitable for use with a single - supported generator. The elastic coupling of the single - bearing generator is matched with the flange interface of the SAE flywheel. The matching tolerance has high precision, and it is relatively convenient to connect with the prime mover. The stop dimension of the SAE flange interface of the generator is designed to match the flywheel housing of the prime mover, so there is no need for further adjustment of the coaxiality, and the concentricity can be guaranteed.

Installation method of the engine and the generator:

1.Install two M16 studs (for positioning) diagonally on the flywheel.

2.Remove the window plate at the driving end of the generator, and remove the fixing plate between the elastic coupling plate and the flange interface.

3.Lift the generator with a sling through the lifting hook of the generator.

4.Move the generator close to the engine. Make sure that the mounting holes of the elastic coupling plate are aligned with the two positioning studs on the flywheel, and the stop of the flange interface and the stop of the flywheel housing are in contact at the same time. First, tighten the connecting bolts between the flange interface and the flywheel housing to connect the engine and the generator in place. Then, remove the two positioning studs, and then fasten the bolts of the elastic coupling plate to the flywheel.

5.Check if there is a gap between the base of the generator and the mounting surface of the engine base. If there is a gap, use metal shims to ensure that the generator base is firmly supported. Do not directly tighten the bolts between the generator base and the mounting surface of the engine base if there is a gap, as this can cause serious consequences.

6.It is recommended to use 10.9 - grade flange - faced bolts (Q184 series) for the mounting bolts between the generator connecting plate and the flywheel. The tightening torque should be controlled at 160 N·m. Note that spring washers should not be installed, as they can cause an increase in stress and lead to damage to the coupling plate.

7.The tightening torque of the bolts between the flange interface and the flywheel housing should be (85 - 100) N·m.

8.After installing the generator, turn the flywheel to move the crankshaft towards the output end. Use a dial indicator at the engine pulley to measure the axial clearance of the crankshaft. The axial clearance of the crankshaft is required to be 0.15 - 0.344 mm, and it should be within this range after the unit is installed.

Note: The crankshaft - flywheel assembly on the engine has been statically and dynamically balanced during assembly. Users are prohibited from replacing the flywheel privately.

4.4.2 Installation of shock - absorbing pads

As the engine is a vibration source, shock - absorbing pads should be installed between the engine and the engine base, as well as between the generator and the engine base, to reduce the spread of vibration.

4.4.3 Installation of the water - tank radiator

The heat - dissipation area of the water - tank radiator and the intercooler, as well as the wind - shield, are designed reasonably and are provided with the engine when it leaves the factory. If the engine is not equipped with a water - tank intercooler, a water - tank intercooler that matches the engine should be selected; otherwise, the optimal operating performance cannot be achieved.

For an engine with a rated power of 1650 kW, the recommended heat dissipation capacity of the high - temperature water circuit is 650 kW, and that of the low - temperature water circuit is 940 kW.

Diesel Generator Power Ratings: Standby vs Prime vs Continuous

Diesel generator sets are commonly used in a variety of sectors due to their dependable performance and high efficiency. They can be used for emergency power supply in the event of a power cut or used in places without connection to a power grid. When selecting a diesel generator for your home or business, you need to consider many factors, such as generator’s ratings. In this article, we’ll explain the three basic rating types - standby, prime, and continuous in diesel generators. ISO-8528-1:2018 defines basic generator set rating categories based on four operational categories: Emergency Standby Power (ESP), Prime Power (PRP), Continuous Power (COP) and Limited-Time Running Prime (LTP). Read on and learn the application of power ratings for engines used in generating sets. Standby Power Rating Standby Power(ESP) is used to supply emergency power when the external power supply is interrupted, such as power outages. Standby power rated generators can supply reliable electricity as t...

How to Connect A Diesel Generator to Your House?

Diesel generators are fuel-efficient and reliable, which can almost meet the power needs of any application. If you want to power the whole house during power shortages, it’s a good choice to choose a diesel generator set as the backup electricity supply. But how to connect a diesel generator to your house? Read on and you will find the answer. Options to connect a diesel generator to your home   Keep in mind that never plug your generator directly into the mains, or it will cause back feeding, damage your appliances and be life-threatening for utility workers. Generally, you can choose to connect a generator to your house by using extension cords or a transfer switch. Understanding the difference between them is helpful for you to choose the right type. Extension cords   Typically, extension cords are suitable for smaller diesel generators that used for short term. They require no installation and are cost-effective. If you need to power only some basic appliances such as...

What Should You Pay Attention to in Routine Maintenance of Diesel Generator Sets

In modern society, the stability of power supply is directly related to the operation efficiency of enterprises and people's quality of life. Diesel generators have become an indispensable backup power supply or main power source in various industries due to their high efficiency, durability and reliability. However, to ensure the smooth operation and optimal performance of the generator sets, regular maintenance is essential. Here is what you need to pay attention to in the routine maintenance of diesel generators. Keep your generator clean It’s important to keep the generator’s exterior and the generator room clean. Regularly remove any dirt, dust, or debris that may accumulate to on the generator’s surface. This is not only for the sake of beauty, but also for the smooth operation of the unit. Cleaning the generator’s exterior, air intake vents, exhaust outlets and generator room can effectively reduce the risk of generator overheating. In addition, check if the connection bol...
