The packing of diesel generators

It’s worth noting that the packing of the generators vary depending on the modes of transportation. For long-distance transport, manufacturers usually use relatively firm and durable packaging to ensure the safety of diesel generator sets during transportation. For short distance transport, the modes of packaging can be more flexible which meet the diverse needs of customers. The following are three common packages for diesel generators during transportation:

Plastic film

It’s also called flexible packaging. At present, this kind of packaging is commonly used for open-type diesel generator sets. Typically, the film is wrapped around a diesel generator set from top to bottom three times. The cost of this package is low and most manufacturers provide this service.

Wooden case

Wooden case is made of wood, which is more expensive compared to the plastic film. This package is suitable for export and long-distance transportation. Wooden cases for export must be fumigated, so their prices are kind of expensive. This packaging can protect the equipment effectively, while allow easy inspection and loading and unloading.

Iron sheet case

It’s a type of packaging that use iron sheets to package the entire unit according to the customer's requests. The cost of this package is higher, but it is suitable for long-time and long-distance transportation.

What you need to pay attention to when unloading diesel generator sets

Please note that you should try to avoid driving on uneven ground when transporting diesel generators. Focus on keeping it upright and prevent the tilt Angle of the machine from exceeding 30 degrees. Severe vibration may damage the generator. When receiving the diesel generator set,  use a forklift to unload it.

When operating the forklift, make sure the width of the forks is sufficient to support the bottom of the generator, and the forks should be fully inserted into the bottom of the generator for handling. Pay special attention to the parts at the bottom of the generator when handling. After lifting the generator, move it to a level ground before unloading. Follow the following procedures to unload the generator:

  1. Have the site prepared for the arrival of generator and choose a proper type of lifting device to unload and place the generator based on the site requirements. A crane or forklift can be used.

  2. When unloading, use a forklift to support the bottom of the diesel generator, then lift it and place it on a flat ground. Make sure the diesel generator won’t tilt during the unloading. Otherwise, there may be a risk of falling, which can cause damage to the unit.

  3. Unpack the generator. Take out the generator accessories box, and check whether the parts are complete.Than take out the generator rubber foot.

  4. Prepare four rubber pads of the same thickness, and then use the forklift to lift the diesel generator set and place it on the prepared rubber pads.

  5. Secure the generator base with the rubber mats. Ensure the rubber pads won’t shift when the diesel generator is running.

  6. Prepare the water, diesel fuel and engine oil.

  7. Technicians test the unit.

International transport of diesel generator sets may involve shipping logistics, customs clearance, and coordination with transport companies. To make sure the smooth shipping, it’s necessary to prepare relevant documents in advance.
