Diesel Generator Set Exhaust System Design

Diesel generator sets generate a large amount of heat during operation. For the units used in the engine room, the heat is even more difficult to dissipate. Once the diesel generator set operates in an environment with excessively high temperature, its load - carrying capacity will also decline.

There are two cooling methods for diesel generators: air - cooling and water - cooling. When the air - cooling method is adopted, the maximum temperature of the diesel generator room should not exceed 35°C. If there is no condition to build vertical air intake and exhaust ducts in the diesel generator room or the area is insufficient, supply and exhaust fans need to be added to ensure the supply and discharge of air volume, which should be calculated according to the actual situation. When water - cooling is used in the diesel generator room, the air intake volume can be calculated at no less than 20 m³/(kW·h) of the rated power of the diesel engine.

Design of the Diesel Generator Set Exhaust System

1.The position of the radiator exhaust fan of the diesel generator set is the exhaust outlet for the unit's heat. There should be good ventilation and no obstruction within 1 meter in front of the radiator. The heat exhausted from the radiator should be directly discharged to the outside. If the heat circulates indoors, it will cause the unit to overheat, affecting its normal operation and even leading to shutdown.

2.The exhaust of the diesel generator set is also a problem that customers need to consider. The exhaust should be directly piped to the outside or an exhaust fan should be installed in the engine room to directly suck the indoor exhaust gas out. Since the exhaust pipe also generates a large amount of heat during the operation of the unit, the generator manufacturer suggests that users should wrap a layer of insulation cotton around the outer layer of the exhaust pipe to prevent the heat from dissipating in the engine room and increasing the indoor temperature.

3.The air intake and exhaust of the unit's engine room should not be in the same position. The air intake and exhaust should be reasonably arranged to ensure smooth air circulation and good heat dissipation.

4.The end face of the unit's radiator is the area where the unit dissipates heat most intensively. The area of the engine room's exhaust outlet should be 1.5 times larger than that of the radiator. A heat - dissipation channel should also be built at the end face of the radiator to facilitate the direct dissipation of heat to the outside and prevent the increase of indoor temperature.

The exhaust system of the diesel generator set includes the muffler, bellows, flange, elbow, gasket that come as standard with the engine, and the exhaust pipe connecting the engine room to the outside. The exhaust system of each unit should be independently designed and installed. It is absolutely not allowed for different units to share an exhaust pipe to avoid abnormal movement caused by different exhaust pressures of different units during operation, increase the exhaust back - pressure, and prevent the back - flow of waste smoke and exhaust gas through the shared pipe, which may affect the normal power output of the unit or even cause damage to the unit.

What Is the Difference Between Electric Motor and Electric Generator

An electric motor is an electrical machine that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. Most electric motors operate through the interaction between the motor's magnetic field and winding currents to generate force. In certain applications, such as in regenerative braking with traction motors, electric motors can be used in reverse as generators to recover energy that might otherwise be lost as heat and friction. An electric generator operates in the reverse direction, converting mechanical energy into electrical energy. Electric generator can be divided into various type, open type, silent type, trailer type, portable type and container type, etc. Electric generator is mainly composed of diesel engine & alternator. Electric generator set is mainly composed of engine, alternator, control module, and common base. Electric generator :- Electric generator is a type of machine which converts mechanical input (energy) into electrical output (...

Engine Fault Code Messages - Volvo Penta Engine

Volvo Penta Engine Fault Code When a malfunction has occurred and the diagnostic system has generated one or more fault codes, these are read out differently depending on the equipment used. Please refer to “Fault code messages”. If the system indicates that a fault code has been set: 1 Cut engine speed to idle, or shut the Volvo engine off. 2 For DCU/DU Read the fault code from the display, please refer to Reading fault codes via the DCU or Reading fault codes via the DU. For CIU press the diagnostic button and read the fault code, by observing the flashing of the diagnostic lamp. Refer to Reading fault codes via the diagnostic lamp, CIU. 3 Look up the fault code in the Fault Code Register chapter and take the recommended measures. Reading fault codes via the DU (Display Unit) Depending on the severity of the fault the text, either WARNING! or ALARM STOP (a buzzer sounds) will be shown on the display 1 Press any button to come to the fault list. The f...

Perkins Powerful 4000 Series Engine at Middle East Electricity

The Perkins team returns to Middle East Electricity (MEE) in 2017 to promote the full range of its diesel and gas electric power engines. Taking pride of place is the 4000 Series platform, which is designed to provide prime or standby power in critical applications. The evolution of the Perkins 4000 Series The steady evolution of the powerful 4000 Series has taken place over a number of years, thanks to significant investment from Perkins. Its development means the engine is used for prime and standby applications by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and end-users. The 4000 Series is tough and durable, provides consistent performance in the harshest conditions, and is proving to be a constant, reliable electric power source for prime applications all over the world. Perkins sells hundreds of 4000 Series engines every year into the prime power market. It has built more than 50,000 4000 Series engines for some of the world’s biggest businesses, and up to 30 pe...
