What You Need to Know Before Installing A Diesel Generator

As an independent and efficient power supply source, diesel generators play a crucial role in the daily production and operation of enterprises due to their ability to respond quickly and meet load demands. Before installing a diesel generator, you need to make a number of important preparations to ensure that the equipment can operate safely and continuously.

Loading, unloading and transportation of diesel generators

When loading and unloading a generator set, be sure to fasten the rope and handle the unit with care. When the product arrives at the destination, it should be stored in the warehouse as far as possible. If there is no warehouse for open storage, it is recommended to pad the box high to prevent rain, and cover the box with a rain tent to avoid sun and rain damage to the equipment.

Diesel generators are bulky and heavy. Before installing a diesel generator, you need to plan the transport route in advance and set aside a transport channel in the generator room. If the size of the door and window is insufficient for transporting the genset, a spacious passageway can be reserved in the location of the door and window. After the equipment is moved, repair the walls and re-install the door and window.

Unboxing procedure of diesel generator

First of all, before unboxing a diesel generator set, clean the dust and dirt on the box. Check whether the box is damaged and verify the box number and quantity. The key is to check whether it is damaged during transportation.

Do not damage the parts when unboxing the diesel genset. The unboxing starts from the top plate. After the top plate is opened, see if it is the part to be taken out, and then remove other box boards. If it is difficult to remove the top plate, select an appropriate place to remove several box boards. Observe carefully before unboxing the generator set.

After unboxing, the following tasks should be done:

  1. Check all units and accessories according to the generator list and packing list.

  2. Check whether the main dimensions of the unit and accessories are in accordance with the drawings.

  3. Check the unit and accessories for damage and corrosion.

  4. Pay attention to the storage of diesel generator after unboxing it. Lay it flat, cover and wrap the flanges and various connectors to prevent rain and dust from entering.

  5. If the genset cannot be installed in time after inspection, the finished surface of the disassembled parts should be recoated with anti-rust oil and properly stored. For the transmission parts and the sliding parts of the unit, do not turn or slide before the anti-rust oil has been removed. If the anti-rust oil has been removed due to the inspection, it should be reapplied after the inspection.

Placement of diesel generator

According to correlation dimensions between the generator and the wall, column center, or the other generators marked in the genset layout, delineate the vertical and horizontal reference lines of the installation site of the diesel generator. The allowable deviation between the generator center and the wall or column center is 20mm, and the allowable deviation between two generators is 10mm.

Check the diesel generator set for installation

Check the diesel generator set and understand the design content and construction drawings. Prepare materials according to the design drawings, and send the materials to the construction site in sequence according to the construction plan.

If no design drawings are available, please follow the user manual. And according to the use and installation requirements of the equipment, while considering factors such as the water source, power supply, maintenance and service, determine the size and position of the site plan and draw the generator layout plan.

With these meticulous preparations, you can effectively improve the efficiency of diesel generators and ensure a stable power supply under various circumstances.
