How to Reduce The Wear and Tear of Generator Components?

While a diesel generator is operating under load, it is also a process in which the components of the diesel generator itself wear against each other. Dingbo Power, a diesel generator set manufacturer, advises users to minimize the wear between the components of the generator set. In fact, reducing component wear is also a way to extend the lifespan of the generator set. So, in what aspects should our users pay close attention to prevent excessive wear of diesel generator components? The specific content is analyzed as follows:

The quality of the fuel and lubricating oil for diesel generator sets should be compatible.

If the diesel contains sulfur or other impurities, acids and other corrosive substances will be produced during the combustion process, accelerating the wear of the cylinder. If there are too many heavy fractions in the diesel, carbon deposits are likely to form after combustion, causing abrasive wear between the piston rings and the cylinder. The viscosity of diesel has an impact on the formation of the air-fuel mixture and the reliability of the fuel supply equipment. For lubricating oil, viscosity and oxidation resistance have a greater impact. It should be reasonably selected and used according to the operating conditions of the diesel generator set, and must not be used randomly.

Tests have shown that the friction of diesel generator sets increases with the increase in speed and load. When the load increases, the unit pressure on the friction surface increases, and the thermal condition is poor. When the speed increases, the number of frictions per unit time increases. At the same power, the wear is greater when the speed increases than when the load increases. However, too low a speed cannot ensure good liquid lubrication conditions, also increasing wear. Therefore, for a certain diesel generator set, there is a more suitable operating speed range. In addition, when the diesel generator set often operates unstably, such as accelerating, decelerating, stopping, and starting, due to the frequent changes in speed and load, the lubrication conditions of the diesel generator set are poor, and the thermal state is unstable, resulting in increased wear. Especially during starting, the crankshaft speed is low, the oil pump does not supply oil in time, and coupled with the low oil temperature and high oil viscosity, it is difficult to establish liquid lubrication on the friction surface, and the wear is very serious.

The ambient temperature of the operating environment affects the wear of diesel generator sets.

When the temperature is high, the engine is prone to overheating, the viscosity of the lubricating oil is low, and the wear of the components increases. When the temperature is low, the viscosity of the lubricating oil becomes larger, making it difficult to start the diesel generator set. During operation, the cooling water cannot maintain a normal temperature, increasing the wear and corrosion of the components. The wear of diesel generator sets is even more severe during low-temperature starting.

The operating temperature of the diesel generator set is one of the important factors affecting wear. During use, due to factors such as the limitations of the cooling system structure, changes in operating load and speed, and changes in ambient temperature, the operating temperature of the diesel generator set can vary widely. Practice has shown that it is more beneficial to control the cooling water temperature between 75 - 85°C and the lubricating oil temperature between 75 - 95°C.

In summary, as stated by Dingbo Power, a diesel generator set manufacturer, users should strengthen their learning of diesel generator set technology to ensure the correct use of diesel generator sets and reduce component wear. The engineers of the diesel generator set manufacturer guide everyone to start from the following aspects:

1. Reasonably select the operating conditions of the diesel generator.

2. Improve the running-in quality of the diesel generator.

3. Select fuels and lubricating oils suitable for the operating needs of the diesel engine.

4. Improve the operation technical level and carry out maintenance in a timely manner.

What Is the Difference Between Electric Motor and Electric Generator

An electric motor is an electrical machine that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. Most electric motors operate through the interaction between the motor's magnetic field and winding currents to generate force. In certain applications, such as in regenerative braking with traction motors, electric motors can be used in reverse as generators to recover energy that might otherwise be lost as heat and friction. An electric generator operates in the reverse direction, converting mechanical energy into electrical energy. Electric generator can be divided into various type, open type, silent type, trailer type, portable type and container type, etc. Electric generator is mainly composed of diesel engine & alternator. Electric generator set is mainly composed of engine, alternator, control module, and common base. Electric generator :- Electric generator is a type of machine which converts mechanical input (energy) into electrical output (...

Engine Fault Code Messages - Volvo Penta Engine

Volvo Penta Engine Fault Code When a malfunction has occurred and the diagnostic system has generated one or more fault codes, these are read out differently depending on the equipment used. Please refer to “Fault code messages”. If the system indicates that a fault code has been set: 1 Cut engine speed to idle, or shut the Volvo engine off. 2 For DCU/DU Read the fault code from the display, please refer to Reading fault codes via the DCU or Reading fault codes via the DU. For CIU press the diagnostic button and read the fault code, by observing the flashing of the diagnostic lamp. Refer to Reading fault codes via the diagnostic lamp, CIU. 3 Look up the fault code in the Fault Code Register chapter and take the recommended measures. Reading fault codes via the DU (Display Unit) Depending on the severity of the fault the text, either WARNING! or ALARM STOP (a buzzer sounds) will be shown on the display 1 Press any button to come to the fault list. The f...
