What is The Impact of Intake System Faults on Diesel Engine Performance

The main components of the air intake system of the diesel generator are air filter, air intake pipeline, compressor, Intercooler, intake manifold, etc. The intake system has a significant impact on the power performance of diesel engines. If the air intake is insufficient, it can lead to indigestion of the diesel engine; If the air intake is insufficient, it can lead to abnormal wear and tear of the diesel engine in the early stages. Today, Dingbo Power will introduce to you the adverse effects of air intake system failure of diesel generator on diesel engine performance. The specific analysis is as follows:

1.The function of an air filter is to remove dust and impurities from the air, sending clean air into the combustion chamber to reduce wear between the piston and cylinder liner, piston group, and valve group. In addition, it also has the effect of suppressing the intake noise of diesel engines.

If the filter element of the air filter becomes blocked, or if there is an increase in resistance when air passes through due to quality issues, it will result in insufficient intake in the diesel engine. If the amount of air entering the cylinder decreases, the direct result is incomplete combustion of the fuel in the cylinder. At this point, the diesel engine may experience insufficient power and black exhaust smoke.

2.There is usually a rubber hose connection in the connecting pipeline from the air filter to the diesel engine intake manifold (For turbocharged diesel engines, it is the intake port of the compressor). If the hose is compressed or damaged internally due to certain reasons, it will affect the air flow rate. The result is the same as the blockage of the air filter, which will also lead to insufficient power and black exhaust smoke in the diesel engine due to insufficient intake.

3.Air short circuited into the cylinder. If the quality of the air filter is poor or there is damage or air short circuit on the intake pipeline, causing unclean air to enter the cylinder, it will cause serious wear of the diesel engine cylinder liner, piston, and piston ring, and cause problems such as blue exhaust, black smoke, insufficient power, and oil burning.

4.The purpose of the diesel engine exhaust gas turbocharging system is to increase the air pressure entering the cylinder, thereby increasing the density of air entering the cylinder, so as to increase the fuel injection volume and improve the power.

When some reasons lead to insufficient boost pressure or the pipeline behind the turbocharger compressor (such as Intercooler, intake manifold interface, etc.) is blocked or leaked, the diesel engine will also have power decline and other failures due to insufficient intake.

In addition, if the sealing gasket at the intake port on the cylinder head is damaged and leads to poor sealing, it will reduce the boost pressure, which will also lead to insufficient power failure in the diesel engine.

5.When the diesel engine runs normally at idle speed but emits black smoke during load operation, it is highly likely that the air filter is blocked, resulting in insufficient intake. At this point, the air filter can be removed for a short time and the diesel engine can be started to operate under load. If the black smoke disappears, it indicates that the air filter is blocked and needs to be cleaned or replaced.

6.If the diesel engine always experiences abnormal wear of unknown causes such as cylinder pistons, after excluding factors such as accessory quality and oil quality, unclean intake air in the intake system should be the main cause. At this point, the entire intake system from the air filter inlet to the intake manifold inlet on the cylinder head should be carefully checked for damage or air short circuits, especially for special purpose interfaces on the intake pipe that may cause air short circuits.

What Is the Difference Between Electric Motor and Electric Generator

An electric motor is an electrical machine that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. Most electric motors operate through the interaction between the motor's magnetic field and winding currents to generate force. In certain applications, such as in regenerative braking with traction motors, electric motors can be used in reverse as generators to recover energy that might otherwise be lost as heat and friction. An electric generator operates in the reverse direction, converting mechanical energy into electrical energy. Electric generator can be divided into various type, open type, silent type, trailer type, portable type and container type, etc. Electric generator is mainly composed of diesel engine & alternator. Electric generator set is mainly composed of engine, alternator, control module, and common base. Electric generator :- Electric generator is a type of machine which converts mechanical input (energy) into electrical output (...

Perkins Powerful 4000 Series Engine at Middle East Electricity

The Perkins team returns to Middle East Electricity (MEE) in 2017 to promote the full range of its diesel and gas electric power engines. Taking pride of place is the 4000 Series platform, which is designed to provide prime or standby power in critical applications. The evolution of the Perkins 4000 Series The steady evolution of the powerful 4000 Series has taken place over a number of years, thanks to significant investment from Perkins. Its development means the engine is used for prime and standby applications by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and end-users. The 4000 Series is tough and durable, provides consistent performance in the harshest conditions, and is proving to be a constant, reliable electric power source for prime applications all over the world. Perkins sells hundreds of 4000 Series engines every year into the prime power market. It has built more than 50,000 4000 Series engines for some of the world’s biggest businesses, and up to 30 pe...

Engine Fault Code Messages - Volvo Penta Engine

Volvo Penta Engine Fault Code When a malfunction has occurred and the diagnostic system has generated one or more fault codes, these are read out differently depending on the equipment used. Please refer to “Fault code messages”. If the system indicates that a fault code has been set: 1 Cut engine speed to idle, or shut the Volvo engine off. 2 For DCU/DU Read the fault code from the display, please refer to Reading fault codes via the DCU or Reading fault codes via the DU. For CIU press the diagnostic button and read the fault code, by observing the flashing of the diagnostic lamp. Refer to Reading fault codes via the diagnostic lamp, CIU. 3 Look up the fault code in the Fault Code Register chapter and take the recommended measures. Reading fault codes via the DU (Display Unit) Depending on the severity of the fault the text, either WARNING! or ALARM STOP (a buzzer sounds) will be shown on the display 1 Press any button to come to the fault list. The f...
