Fuel Supply Adjustment of Cummins Diesel Generator

If the fuel supply of each cylinder of Cummins diesel generator is uneven, it will directly affect the stability of the engine. You can remove the fuel injection pump and check and adjust it on the test bench. However, if there is no test bench for diesel generator and you need to check the uneven fuel supply, you can also roughly check the fuel supply of the suspected cylinder, and check and adjust the method: 

1. Prepare two glass measuring cylinders for use. If you cannot find the measuring cylinder at the moment, you can also use two identical small bottles instead.

2. Remove the high-pressure fuel pipe connector that connects the first cylinder with an excessive (or insufficient) fuel supply to the fuel injector.

3. Remove the high-pressure pipe joint connecting the normal fuel supply cylinder and the fuel injector. 

4. Insert the two fuel pipe ends into two measuring cylinders (or vials) respectively. 

5. Rotate the engine with the starter to pump fuel from the fuel injection pump.

6. When there is some diesel in the equivalent cylinder (or small bottle), place the measuring cylinder on a horizontal table to compare the amount of fuel and determine whether the fuel supply is too large or too small. If a small bottle is used instead, it can be weighed and compared. The relative position of the fork (or ring gear) on the fuel injection pump fuel adjustment rod (i.e. the gear rod) can be adjusted by changing it. 

During the operation of Cummins diesel generator, according to experience, the following points should be paid special attention:

1. Loosen the fixing screws of the fork (or gear ring, or flange sleeve), and the fuel supply can be changed by moving it slightly. Do not move it too much, otherwise it will be difficult to adjust accurately.

2. After each adjustment, confirm the tightening degree of the fixing screws.

3. When adjusting the fuel supply, it should be ensured that the fuel supply does not exceed the standard fuel supply, as the adjustment is carried out at low speeds, taking into account the impact of various factors such as fuel leakage. At this point, a significant degree of unevenness (30%) is allowed, but at high speeds, it is affected by factors such as throttling, resulting in a smaller degree of unevenness (3%). If the fuel quantity at low speeds is higher than the standard fuel supply quantity, there may be significant changes in the high-speed fuel quantity, even exceeding the rated fuel supply quantity.

4. If there is a significant difference between the large and small fuel supply on the same engine, do not adjust in a hurry. You can first adjust and install the outlet valves of the two pumps for inspection and comparison. Sometimes, this can also change the fuel supply. If the fuel supply is not changed after the adjustment, the two pumps need to be adjusted one by one. 

5. Use the Comparative law to adjust the fuel supply, and operate carefully.
