Assembly of Exhaust Gas Turbocharger for Diesel Generator Set Part 2

Continuing from the previous text, we will introduce to diesel generator users how the exhaust turbocharger of a diesel generator set is assembled.

7. Apply clean engine oil to the shaft seal that has been installed with an elastic sealing ring, and then install it into the corresponding seat hole on the compressor end air seal plate. Before installation, offset the opening positions of the two rings by 180 degrees, and insert the "o" - shaped rubber sealing ring into the groove on the outer circumference of the compressor air seal plate. In order to facilitate pressing into the middle shell, apply some thin engine oil to the outer surface of the rubber sealing ring, and then press it into the middle shell body.

8. After aligning the dynamic balance marks on the rotor and compressor impeller, put on the compressor impeller, screw on the self-locking nut and tighten it until it aligns with the dynamic balance mark on the shaft end face [the tightening torque at this time is 39-44N. m (4-4.5kgf. m)], and do not allow the compressor impeller to rotate relative to the shaft during tightening (if the compressor impeller cannot be smoothly inserted into the shaft, it can be immersed in boiling water and heated before inserting).

9. Remove the finished assembly from the vise and install it into the bladeless volute according to the original markings. Be careful not to tilt during assembly to avoid damaging the top part of the turbine blades. Then install the pressure plate and stop washer at the end of the drum, tighten the hex nut (tightening torque is 39N. m (4kgf. m)), and lock the stop washer with 8 nuts.

10. Align the compressor housing with the mark and install it into the middle housing. Before assembly, insert the "v" - shaped clamp into the middle housing and be careful not to tilt it during assembly to avoid damaging the top part of the compressor impeller blades from the foot arc of the compressor housing. Install the "v" - shaped clamp and tighten the bolt with a tightening torque of 14.7N-m (1.5kgf-m).

After injecting clean engine oil into the oil inlet hole of the middle shell, the impeller should rotate flexibly by hand, and the well should be carefully monitored to check for any collision or rubbing sounds.

After the final assembly, the following two items should be measured.

1. To measure the axial movement of the turbine compressor rotor, place the iron suction gauge seat with a dial gauge on the flange plane at the outlet of the volute, place the measuring rod end of the dial gauge on the hexagonal shoulder plane at the outlet of the turbine impeller, and then manually push and pull the rotor shaft to measure the maximum axial movement, which should be less than 0 If the value exceeds 25mm, further inspection of various components such as thrust bearings and thrust plates should be carried out. This method can be used for measuring when the turbocharger is already installed in the unit.

2. For the radial clearance of the compressor, use your fingers to press the self-locking nut on the rotor shaft from the radial direction, and then measure the minimum clearance between the compressor impeller blades and the compressor casing with a thickness gauge. This clearance should be greater than 0.15mm. If it is less than this value, it should be disassembled and inspected. Be careful not to damage the blades on the impeller during inspection. This method can also be performed on units that have already installed a turbocharger.

What Is the Difference Between Electric Motor and Electric Generator

An electric motor is an electrical machine that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy. Most electric motors operate through the interaction between the motor's magnetic field and winding currents to generate force. In certain applications, such as in regenerative braking with traction motors, electric motors can be used in reverse as generators to recover energy that might otherwise be lost as heat and friction. An electric generator operates in the reverse direction, converting mechanical energy into electrical energy. Electric generator can be divided into various type, open type, silent type, trailer type, portable type and container type, etc. Electric generator is mainly composed of diesel engine & alternator. Electric generator set is mainly composed of engine, alternator, control module, and common base. Electric generator :- Electric generator is a type of machine which converts mechanical input (energy) into electrical output (...

Engine Fault Code Messages - Volvo Penta Engine

Volvo Penta Engine Fault Code When a malfunction has occurred and the diagnostic system has generated one or more fault codes, these are read out differently depending on the equipment used. Please refer to “Fault code messages”. If the system indicates that a fault code has been set: 1 Cut engine speed to idle, or shut the Volvo engine off. 2 For DCU/DU Read the fault code from the display, please refer to Reading fault codes via the DCU or Reading fault codes via the DU. For CIU press the diagnostic button and read the fault code, by observing the flashing of the diagnostic lamp. Refer to Reading fault codes via the diagnostic lamp, CIU. 3 Look up the fault code in the Fault Code Register chapter and take the recommended measures. Reading fault codes via the DU (Display Unit) Depending on the severity of the fault the text, either WARNING! or ALARM STOP (a buzzer sounds) will be shown on the display 1 Press any button to come to the fault list. Perkins Powerful 4000 Series Engine at Middle East Electricity

The Perkins team returns to Middle East Electricity (MEE) in 2017 to promote the full range of its diesel and gas electric power engines. Taking pride of place is the 4000 Series platform, which is designed to provide prime or standby power in critical applications. The evolution of the Perkins 4000 Series The steady evolution of the powerful 4000 Series has taken place over a number of years, thanks to significant investment from Perkins. Its development means the engine is used for prime and standby applications by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and end-users. The 4000 Series is tough and durable, provides consistent performance in the harshest conditions, and is proving to be a constant, reliable electric power source for prime applications all over the world. Perkins sells hundreds of 4000 Series engines every year into the prime power market. It has built more than 50,000 4000 Series engines for some of the world’s biggest businesses, and up to 30 pe...
