How to Ensure Automatic Start-up of Backup Diesel Generator Sets?

Creating backup diesel generator technology may be one of the most helpful technological advances in the world today. Although emergency power supply systems were initially not advanced enough to start automatically, with the passage of time and technological advancements, today's diesel generators have become more intelligent. For example, the diesel generator set of Top Power has an automatic start stop function. When the mains power is cut off, the generator set can start automatically. When the mains power returns to normal, the generator set will automatically shut down, and when the power supply automatically switches to mains power, the entire process does not require human intervention, achieving complete intelligence.

If there is a power outage, the emergency diesel generator will automatically start without anyone running towards the main distribution board. But after all, a diesel generator is a machine, and if you don't monitor it regularly, you can't rely on it. Proper maintenance of your diesel generator is crucial to ensure its proper functioning and uninterrupted power supply to your business in the event of a power outage.

In order to ensure the smooth and uninterrupted operation of diesel generators, maintenance of diesel generators is crucial. If you slack off and check it regularly, it is likely to malfunction when needed. You also do not want the backup diesel generator to be unable to provide backup power during a power outage.

Before delving into the technical details of how diesel generators start automatically, we first discuss some important prerequisites that must be performed before actually starting a diesel generator.

There are three methods to check whether the diesel generator is working properly.

Battery mode start

Hydraulic start

Auto start

It is very important to test diesel generators through three methods when monitoring them. Firstly, start the battery once a week to ensure the effectiveness of the installed battery. You need the batteries to be in optimal condition to ensure that they do not leak or dry up in the emergency electrical system.

Perform hydraulic and automatic start-up after weekly inspection. Before actually switching loads, please check whether the diesel generator is truly started when manually starting and cutting off the power supply.

Once the diesel generator has passed all testing procedures, you can ensure that the wiring system is actually changed so that the diesel generator can start automatically when needed.

There are two power boards in the electrical system of the building. One is the emergency distribution panel, and the other is the manual distribution panel. The circuit breaker connects the two, but due to interlocking, we cannot supply power from both sources at the same time.

Therefore, the circuit breaker is disconnected from the emergency distribution panel or manual distribution panel and the connecting line. Opening the circuit breaker allows the diesel generator to automatically start with the support of the battery and provide power to all connected appliances.

To shut down the diesel generator, reconnect the circuit breaker to the connection line, i.e. close it again. Then interlock to unload the diesel generator, close the switch and turn off the diesel generator.

Diesel Generator Power Ratings: Standby vs Prime vs Continuous

Diesel generator sets are commonly used in a variety of sectors due to their dependable performance and high efficiency. They can be used for emergency power supply in the event of a power cut or used in places without connection to a power grid. When selecting a diesel generator for your home or business, you need to consider many factors, such as generator’s ratings. In this article, we’ll explain the three basic rating types - standby, prime, and continuous in diesel generators. ISO-8528-1:2018 defines basic generator set rating categories based on four operational categories: Emergency Standby Power (ESP), Prime Power (PRP), Continuous Power (COP) and Limited-Time Running Prime (LTP). Read on and learn the application of power ratings for engines used in generating sets. Standby Power Rating Standby Power(ESP) is used to supply emergency power when the external power supply is interrupted, such as power outages. Standby power rated generators can supply reliable electricity as t...

What Should You Pay Attention to in Routine Maintenance of Diesel Generator Sets

In modern society, the stability of power supply is directly related to the operation efficiency of enterprises and people's quality of life. Diesel generators have become an indispensable backup power supply or main power source in various industries due to their high efficiency, durability and reliability. However, to ensure the smooth operation and optimal performance of the generator sets, regular maintenance is essential. Here is what you need to pay attention to in the routine maintenance of diesel generators. Keep your generator clean It’s important to keep the generator’s exterior and the generator room clean. Regularly remove any dirt, dust, or debris that may accumulate to on the generator’s surface. This is not only for the sake of beauty, but also for the smooth operation of the unit. Cleaning the generator’s exterior, air intake vents, exhaust outlets and generator room can effectively reduce the risk of generator overheating. In addition, check if the connection bol...

How to Connect A Diesel Generator to Your House?

Diesel generators are fuel-efficient and reliable, which can almost meet the power needs of any application. If you want to power the whole house during power shortages, it’s a good choice to choose a diesel generator set as the backup electricity supply. But how to connect a diesel generator to your house? Read on and you will find the answer. Options to connect a diesel generator to your home   Keep in mind that never plug your generator directly into the mains, or it will cause back feeding, damage your appliances and be life-threatening for utility workers. Generally, you can choose to connect a generator to your house by using extension cords or a transfer switch. Understanding the difference between them is helpful for you to choose the right type. Extension cords   Typically, extension cords are suitable for smaller diesel generators that used for short term. They require no installation and are cost-effective. If you need to power only some basic appliances such as...
